I just got back from a vacation in the wonderful country of Spain—it was a fortnight steeped in history, glorious medieval and modern art and architecture, getting a peek of Spanish culture (late nights, paseos, football, bull rings), and of course, fashion!
Mention Spain, and a fashionista will quickly blurt out Mango, Zara, Balenciaga and Custo Barcelona. And while we couldn’t get just enough of their high-street brands, we also made quick notes of some fashion trends ruling the streets of Spain this spring/ summer.
Trend 1: Navy stripes
We’ve written earlier about navy stripes and how to give them a summery twist. In Spain, men, women and children wore the traditional blue-and-white tees like they had nothing else to wear! 😉 For women, the most common way they choose to dress up their stripes was with a red accessory like a beaded necklace or shoes.

Trend 2: Lace
While cut-outs and lace are only on the racks of most high-street (and high fashion) stores currently, we expect it to make a striking appearance in the next few weeks on the streets of Barcelona and Sevilla. We saw lace details, cut-outs and faux crochet mostly on waistcoats and cropped jackets, to be worn over tees and tank tops.

Trend 3: Accessory alert: casual clutches, owls
Clutches are not just for evening wear. Young Spanish women carry fun clutches with jeans or to lunch—like polka dots and colourful prints. We especially liked the wallet-clutches and those with embellishments like bows. As for necklaces, the department stores and local favourites like Bershka were flooded with charm necklaces, bracelets and keychains, and the charms forming odd combinations like beads, crystals and owl-shaped bronze pieces.
