Street Eeks: What NOT to wear at a cricket match ever

Folks, there are things you can wear to a cricket match, and there are things you just don’t. This girl I spotted at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium over the weekend got it all wrong! Firstly, she was dressed in all black on a warm day, with a funny floral, black-silver skirt. (I can’t even describe it!).

Then there was a sling bag across her body of a very odd mud colour and long dangling earrings (not in picture). But I can’t decide what’s worse- her shoes with the funny heels (aspiring me to be booties), or the black socks with them! Or the skirt. Or the odd black top…Yikes!

Meanwhile, I aimed for chic comfort at the India-England match- wearing a purple polo tee with lemony pants and my loafers of the moment.

What would you wear to a cricket match?

Street Chic: Go black and blue!

Anisha loves fashion, and she especially loves good bags. When we met her at a family do, she had mixed her blue-themed look (blue tunic, blue jeans and close-to-lilac nailpolish) with a black Miu Miu bag. Effect: eye-catching in the Mumbai sun!

Take a look:

Unfortunately, Anisha is terribly shy, so these are the best shots we could get. 🙂

Style Lessons from Anisha’s look:

  • Who says you can’t wear blue with blue? Find an easy print, and you’re set.
  • Matchy-matchy is not as bad as it’s made out to be, but contrast your makeup (in this case, nailpolish) and accessories.

Street Chic: Rockin’ the shorts

We met Sujata at a recent fashion week, covering the event for the news website. While some of the recent fashion weeks have seen not-so-hot ramp shows, going by Sujata’s look, off-the-ramp looks were very fashionable indeed.

Sujata has cleverly coordinated high street brands like Promod for her clothes and cool accessories (check out the belt and necklace), with her hair and makeup (the side pony totally suits her). And she’s got the right dose of confidence to carry off the shorts!

Result: She’s looking tres chic!

At Office: Leafy business

The monsoon is almost here, but that doesn’t stop us girls from making the most of the sticky heat. Ruchi arrived for a meeting at work in a super comfy and super stylish skirt-and-blouse combo.

I particularly love the skirt’s ruffles and diagonal pleats that make Ruchi appear taller. And the blouse is endearing too—the maroon leaf print is perfect for the end-of-summer, and a great visual break from the ubiquitous floral prints.

Thanks Ruchi, for showing us how much fun skirts-and-blouses (and office wear) can be!

Street Chic: Simple style with LV

[tweetmeme source=”spkngchic” only_single=false]
Speaking Chic kicks off a new feature: Street Chic! In this feature, we’re going to hunt for great looks and outfits worn by people we spot at restaurants, theatres, malls and the streets, of course.

We bumped into Kanika at a hotel and were immediately taken in by her little LV! She chose her brand-new bag to be the centrepiece of her look and keep it muted with her knotted blouse and skinny Esprit jeans.

Besides the eye-catching bag (colour not so great in the photo), we liked her other accessory– her criss-cross strappy high heels. They’re a great take on the gladiator style that’s so popular these days.

What do you think of Kanika’s understated chic look? Tell us!
